திருக்குறள் (3/21)

ஒழுக்கத்து நீத்தார் பெருமை விழுப்பத்து

வேண்டும் பனுவல் துணிவு.

பொருள்:

நல்லொழுக்க நெறியில் நின்று முற்றும் துறந்த முனிவரது பெருமையை, சான்றோர் நூல்கள் சிறந்த பெருமையாக எடுத்துக்கூறும்.

விரிவாக்கம்:

மனிதர்கள் தம் வாழ்வினில் நல்வழியில் நின்று ஒழுக்க நெறியைப் பின்பற்றி வாழ்ந்தால், முற்றும் துறந்த முனிவர்களின் வாழ்வியல் சிறப்புகளை நூல்கள் போற்றித் துதிப்பது போல, இவர்களின் வாழ்வையும் இந்த உலகம் சிறந்த பெருமையுடன் போற்றும் என்பதை இக்குறள் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது.

Meaning:

Scriptures proudly declare that the highest greatness belongs to those who observe good conduct and renounce all worldly desires.

Explanation:

When individuals lead a disciplined life guided by strong moral principles, scriptures and history glorify their life values as much as they honor the greatness of ascetic saints who have renounced everything.
