திருக்குறள்:
இருமை வகைதெரிந்து ஈண்டுஅறம் பூண்டார்
பெருமை பிறங்கிற்று உலகு.
பொருள்:
இப்பிறப்பு, மறுபிறப்பு என்னும் இரண்டின் தன்மைகளையும் ஆராய்ந்து அறிந்து, இவ்வுலகில் அறநெறியைப் பூண்டு வாழும் துறவிகளின் பெருமையே உலகத்தில் உயர்ந்ததாக விளங்கும்.
விரிவாக்கம்:
இந்த உலகில் மனிதர்கள் நல்வினை, தீவினை ஆகியவற்றின் பலன்களைச் சரியாக ஆராய்ந்து அறிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு இல்லற வாழ்வின் நன்மை தீமைகளை உணர்ந்து, துறவற நெறியை மேற்கொண்டு வாழ்பவர்களின் வாழ்வியல் சிறப்புகளைப் போன்ற மேன்மையானது இந்த உலகில் வேறு எதுவும் இல்லை என்பதை இக்குறள் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது

The greatness of those who have understood the dual nature of the world (good and evil, or rebirth and liberation) and adopted righteousness shines supreme in this world.
Explanation:
When individuals discern the true nature of worldly pleasures and spiritual liberation, and choose the path of righteousness and renunciation, their noble life stands out as the highest example of greatness in this world.
