திருக்குறள்:
அறத்தான் வருவதே இன்பம்மற் றெல்லாம்
புறத்த புகழும் இல.
பொருள்:
அறநெறியில் வாழ்வதன் மூலம் வரும் இன்பமே உண்மையான இன்பமாகும்; அறமல்லாத பிற வழிகளில் வரும் இன்பங்கள் இன்பமும் ஆகாது, புகழும் தராது.
விரிவாக்கம்:
மனிதர்கள் நேர்மையான மற்றும் அறவழியில் நின்று வாழும் வாழ்க்கையே அவர்களுக்கு உண்மையான மன அமைதியையும் நிலையான இன்பத்தையும் தரும். அறநெறியைப் பின்பற்றாமல் பெறப்படும் இன்பங்கள் தற்காலிகமாக இன்பம் போலத் தோன்றினாலும், அவை இறுதியில் துன்பத்தையும் வீண் பழிச்சொல்லையுமே கொண்டு வந்து சேர்க்கும் என்பதை இக்குறள் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது. தினமும் ஒரு குறளும் பொருளும் விரிவாக்கமும். பாலாஜி பாலசுப்பிரமணியம்.

Meaning:
True happiness flows only from a righteous life; all other pleasures derived from unrighteousness lack genuine joy and bring no enduring acclaim.
Explanation:
Joy rooted in morality and righteous living brings deep fulfillment and lasting peace. On the other hand, pleasures acquired through deceptive or unethical means might feel satisfying temporarily, but they ultimately result in regret, sorrow, and social disgrace.
