English Translation:
Thirukkural:
Onalinum Ondathu Aralinithu Kaamam
Punarthalin Oodal Inithu.
Meaning:
Better than eating food is the easy digestion of what was eaten; likewise, sweeter than physical union in love is the delight of playful sulking.
Explanation:
Just as digesting food properly brings greater comfort and physical well-being than overindulging in a meal, engaging in light, romantic spats (sulking) brings a far richer dimension to love than mere continuous physical closeness. These short periods of feigned anger heighten anticipation and make the eventual union infinitely sweeter.
