திருக்குறள்:
ஐந்தவித்தான் ஆற்றல் அகல்விசும்பு ளார்கோமான்
இந்திரனே சாலுங் கரி.
பொருள்:
ஐம்பொறிகளின் ஆசைகளையும் அடக்கிய ஒருவனுடைய ஆற்றலுக்கு, பரந்த வானுலகத்துத் தேவர்களின் தலைவனான இந்திரனே போதுமான சான்றாவான்.
விரிவாக்கம்:
இந்த பிரபஞ்சத்தில் வாழுகின்ற மனிதர்கள் தங்கள் வாழ்வில் மெய், வாய், கண், மூக்கு, செவி ஆகிய ஐம்புலன்களையும் கட்டுப்படுத்தி வாழப் பழகிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு புலனடக்கம் கொண்டு வாழ்பவர்களின் பேராற்றலுக்கும் பெருமைக்கும் விண்ணுலகத் தலைவனான இந்திரனின் கதையே சிறந்த சான்றாக விளங்குகிறது என்பதை இக்குறள் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது.
