திருக்குறள்:

அறத்தாறு இதுவென வேண்டா சிவிகை

பொறுத்தானோடு ஊர்ந்தான் இடை.

பொருள்:

அறத்தின் வழி நடந்து வாழ்பவருக்குக் கிடைக்கும் பயன் இதுதானா என்று நூல்களைக் கொண்டு விளக்க வேண்டியதில்லை; பல்லக்கைச் சுமப்பவனுக்கும் அதில் அமர்ந்து செல்பவனுக்கும் இடையே உள்ள வேறுபாடே அதற்குச் சான்றாகும்.

விரிவாக்கம்:

நல்வினையின் பயனை அறிய விரும்புவோருக்கு, பல்லக்கைச் சுமப்பவனின் உழைப்பும் அதில் ஏறிச் செல்லும் பயனாளியின் அமைதியான பயணமுமே நல்வினை-தீவினையின் விளைவை வெளிப்படையாக உணர்த்தும் சான்றாகும். மனிதர்கள் செய்யும் நற்செயல்களும் அறவழியும் அவர்களின் எதிர்கால வாழ்வையும் பிறவிகளையும் செழுமைப்படுத்தும் ஆற்றல் கொண்டவை என்பதை இக்குறள் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது. தினமும் ஒரு குறளும் பொருளும் விரிவாக்கமும். பாலாஜி பாலசுப்பிரமணியம்.

Meaning:

There is no need for verbal explanations to demonstrate the fruits of virtue; the contrast between the palanquin bearer and its rider is proof enough.

Explanation:

The visible differences in human circumstances—symbolized by the contrast between one who carries a heavy load and one who enjoys a comfortable ride—serve as an everyday illustration of the law of cause and effect (Karma). Righteous actions yield comfort and peace, while neglecting moral principles leads to physical and mental hardship.
