122/1212: கனவு நிலையுரைத்தல்
கயலுண்கண் யானிரப்பத் துஞ்சிற் கலந்தார்க்கு
உயலுண்மை சாற்றுவேன் மன்.
பொருள்:
மை தீட்டப்பெற்ற கயல் மீன் போன்ற என் கண்கள் நான் இரந்து கேட்டுக்கொள்வது போலக் கொஞ்சமாவது உறங்குமானால், என் கனவில் வந்து கூடும் என் காதலரிடம் நான் இன்னும் உயிர் பிழைத்திருக்கும் உண்மையைக் கூறுவேன்.
விரிவாக்கம்:
கனவில் காதலனைக் கண்டு தன் மனக் குமுறலைத் தெரிவிக்க ஏங்கும் தலைவி, தூக்கம் வராத தன் கண்களை நினைத்து நைந்து உருகுகிறாள். "என் கண்கள் எப்போதும் தூங்காமல் விழித்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன. கயல் மீன் போன்ற இக் கண்களிடம் சென்று, 'தயவுசெய்து சற்றே தூங்குங்கள்' என்று நான் மன்றாடிக் கேட்கிறேன். இவைகளும் நான் கெஞ்சுவதைக் கேட்டுச் சற்றுத் தூங்கிவிட்டால், என் கனவில் என் காதலன் தோன்றுவான். அப்படி அவர் கனவில் வரும்போது, 'உன் பிரிவைத் தாங்க முடியாமல் நான் படாதபாடு படுகிறேன்; தினமும் உன் நினைவுகளாலேயே மீண்டும் மீண்டும் விழித்துக் கொண்டு துடிக்கிறேன்; இருப்பினும் உன்னைப் பார்க்கும் இந்த ஒரு நொடிக்காகத்தான் இன்னும் உயிருடன் பிழைத்திருக்கிறேன்' என்ற உண்மையை அவரிடம் கூறி ஆதங்கப்படுவேன்" என்று தன் தூக்கமில்லா நிலையை எண்ணித் தலைவி நயம்பட எடுத்துரைப்பதாக இக்குறள் அமைகின்றது.

Meaning:
If my fish-like, painted eyes would sleep as I beg them to, I would tell my lover in my dreams the truth of how I still manage to stay alive.
Explanation:
The maiden pleads with her restless, sleepless eyes so that she may fall asleep and meet her lover in dreamland. She longs to tell him of her immense struggle during their separation—how his memory repeatedly rouses her in anguish and how she barely holds onto life purely out of longing for him. However, because her eyes refuse to close in sleep, she is deprived of even this dream reunion, leaving her unable to convey the true extent of her enduring pain and survival to her beloved.
