124/1232:திருக்குறள்:

நயந்தவர் நல்காமை சொல்லுவ போலும்

பசந்து பனிவாரும் கண்.

பொருள்:

பசலை நிறமடைந்து கண்ணீரை இடைவிடாமல் வழியவிடும் என் கண்கள், யான் ஆசையோடு விரும்பிய காதலன் என்மீது சிறிதும் கருணை காட்டவில்லை என்ற செய்தியைப் பிறருக்கு எடுத்துக் கூறுவன போலக் காட்சியளிக்கின்றன.

விரிவாக்கம்:

தலைவியின் பிரிவாற்றாமையை அவளது கண்கள் எவ்வாறு உலகிற்கு அம்பலப்படுத்துகின்றன என்பதை இக்குறள் நயம்பட விவரிக்கிறது. "நான் உயிர்விடாமல் நேசித்த என் காதலன் இன்று என் துன்பத்தைப் போக்கி அன்பளிக்கும் அருள்மனம் இல்லாதவனாகப் பிரிந்து வாழ்கிறான். இந்த ரகசியத்தை நான் யாருக்கும் தெரியாமல் மறைக்க எண்ணினாலும், ஏக்கத்தால் நிறம்மாறிப் பொசியும் என் கண்ணீர்த் துளிகளே, 'இவள் ஆசைப்பட்ட தலைவன் இவளுக்கு அன்பு செய்யவில்லை' என்ற கசப்பான உண்மையை ஊரார் அனைவருக்கும் வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்லிவிடும் தூதுவர்களைப் போலச் செயல்படுகின்றன" என்று தலைவி தன் ஆற்றாமையை வெளிப்படுத்துவதாக இக்குறள் அமைகின்றது.

Meaning:

My eyes, faded pale and streaming with tears, seem to tell the world that the lover I cherished refuses to bestow his grace upon me.

Explanation:

The maiden seeks to keep her heartbreak private, wishing to shield her lover's reputation from public scrutiny. Yet, her weeping eyes betray her intentions. As they lose their vibrant shine and constantly shed tears of yearning, they effectively announce to every onlooker that the man she deeply adores has denied her his comforting presence and love. Her tears act as eloquent witnesses to his cold neglect.
