125/1244:திருக்குறள்:

கண்ணும் கொளச்சேறி நெஞ்சே பரித்துள்ளல்

பைதல்நோய் செய்தார்கண் இல்.

பொருள்:

என் நெஞ்சமே! நம்மைத் துன்பத்தில் ஆழ்த்திய தலைவனிடம் நீ போவதானால், என் கண்களையும் உன்னோடு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போவாயாக; ஏனெனில், அவனைக் காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று இக்கண்கள் என்னை அரித்துத் தின்பது போல இடைவிடாமல் வருத்துகின்றன.

விரிவாக்கம்:

தலைவனின் நினைவுகளிலேயே மூழ்கியிருக்கும் மனமானது அவனைக் காண்பதற்காக அவனிடம் செல்லத் துடிக்கிறது. அதைக் கண்ட தலைவி, தன் கண்களின் அவல நிலையை எண்ணித் தன் நெஞ்சத்திடம் மன்றாடுகிறாள். "என் நெஞ்சமே! எனக்கு இத்தகைய பிரிவுத் துயரத்தைத் தந்த காதலனிடம் இரக்க உணர்வு என்பதே இல்லை; அதனால் அவன் நம்மிடம் வரமாட்டான். நீயாவது அவனைத் தேடிச் செல்வதானால், என் வழியும் கண்களையும் உன்னோடு கூடவே எடுத்துச் செல். ஏனெனில், 'காதலனைக் காட்டு, அவனைக் காண வேண்டும்' என்று இக்கண்கள் என்னை ஓய்வில்லாமல் அழுது வருத்துகின்றன. நீ மட்டும் தனியாகச் செல்லாமல் இக்கண்களையும் அவனிடம் அழைத்துச் சென்று அவனைக் காட்டினால், இவற்றின் ஏக்கம் தணியும்" என்று தன் கண்களின் தவிப்பைத் தலைவி நயம்பட எடுத்துரைப்பதாக இக்குறள் அமைகின்றது.

Meaning:

O my heart! If you are going to seek our lover, take my weeping eyes along with you; for he who caused this grief feels no pity, and these eyes relentlessly torment me to see him.

Explanation:

The maiden addresses her restless heart, which is eager to leap forth and reach her absent lover. She notes that the man who inflicted such agonizing sorrow upon her lacks the compassion to return on his own. Therefore, she begs her heart not to venture out alone, but to take her eyes along on the journey. She laments that her eyes continuously weep and demand to behold him; taking them to his presence is the only way to appease their relentless, agonizing longing.
