126/1254:திருக்குறள்:

நிறையுடையேன் என்பேன்மன் யானோஎன் காமம்

மறையிறந்து மன்று படும்.

பொருள்:

"நான் மன அடக்கமும் கற்பென்னும் நிறை பண்பும் உடையவள்" என்று எனக்குள்ளே பெருமைப்பட்டுக் கொள்வேன்; ஆனால், என் காதல் நோயோ மனத்தின் எல்லையைக் கடந்து மன்றத்திலே எல்லாரும் அறியும்படி வெளிப்பட்டு நிற்கின்றது.

விரிவாக்கம்:

தன் காதலை எவருக்கும் தெரியாமல் மனதிற்குள்ளேயே பூட்டி வைக்க வேண்டும், அடக்கத்தோடு பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று தலைவி நினைத்திருந்தாள். ஆனால், அவளது பிரிவாற்றாமையின் தீவிரமும் காதல் நோயின் பெருக்கும் அவளது நெஞ்சின் வரம்புகளை உடைத்துக்கொண்டு வெளியேறுகின்றன. "நான் வரைமுறையும் மன அடக்கமும் கொண்டவள் என்று நினைத்திருந்தது பொய்யாகிவிட்டது; என் காதலால் ஏற்பட்ட வேதனையும் ஏக்கமும் மறைமுகமாக இராமல், பொது மன்றத்தில் அனைவரும் அறிந்துகொள்ளும் வகையில் அம்பலப்பட்டு நிற்கின்றதே!" என்று தன் கட்டுக்கடங்காத காதல் உணர்வைக் குறித்துத் தலைவி நயம்பட எடுத்துரைப்பதாக இக்குறள் அமைகின்றது.

I used to pride myself on possessing firm self-restraint, but my unyielding passion has breached all secrets and exposed itself in public.

Explanation:

The maiden always believed she possessed the strength and modesty required to conceal her inner suffering from the world. However, as the grief of separation intensifies, her intense longing overwhelms her emotional endurance. She laments that her carefully guarded secret has broken past all mental barriers, exposing her vulnerability and deep love for all to see in the open forum of society.
