126/1257:திருக்குறள்:

நாணென ஒன்றோ அறியலம் காமத்தால்

பேணியார் பெட்ப செயின்.

பொருள்:

நம்மால் விரும்பிப் பேணப்பட்ட தலைவன், பேரன்பினால் நாம் விரும்பும் காரியங்களைச் செய்து நம்மை மகிழ்விப்பான் என்றால், நாணம் என்று கூறப்படும் குணத்தை யாம் சிறிதும் அறிய மாட்டோம்.

விரிவாக்கம்:

பெண்களுக்கு உரிய தலையாய குணம் நாணம் என்பதாகும். ஆனால், தான் உயிருக்கு மேலாக நேசிக்கும் காதலன் தன் மீது அளவற்ற அன்பு கொண்டு, தன் மனக்கருத்தை அறிந்து, தான் விரும்பும் இன்பங்களை வாரி வழங்கும்போது, அந்த அன்பின் பெருக்கில் பெண்மைக்கே உரிய நாண உணர்வு தானாகவே மறைந்து விடுகிறது. "நம்மை அன்போடு அரவணைக்கும் தலைவன் நம் விருப்பப்படி நடந்துகொள்ளும்போது, வெட்கம் என்ற ஒரு வரம்பு இருப்பதையே நாம் மறந்து அவனோடு ஒன்றிணைந்து விடுவோம்" என்று காதல் உணர்வின் ஆதிக்கத்தையும் நாணம் கரையும் இயல்பையும் தலைவி நயம்பட எடுத்துரைப்பதாக இக்குறள் அமைகின்றது.

Meaning:

If our beloved, out of deep love, acts according to our innermost desires, we shall know nothing of what is called bashful restraint.

Explanation:

Modesty and bashfulness are considered innate virtues of a woman. However, when her cherished lover responds with intense affection and fulfills her deepest heart's desires, the overwhelming nature of mutual love dissolves all hesitation. The maiden admits that under the spell of such devoted intimacy, all formal reserve and maidenly shyness vanish completely, yielding entirely to unconditional togetherness.
