திருக்குறள்:

புலத்தலின் புத்தேள்நாடு உண்டோ நிலத்தொடு

நீரியைந் தன்னார் அகத்து.

பொருள்:

நிலமும் நீரும் ஒன்றோடொன்று கலந்தாற்போலப் பிரிக்க முடியாத அன்பு கொண்ட காதலர்களிடையே நிகழும் செல்ல ஊடலை விட மேலான இன்பம், தேவர் உலகத்திலும் (புத்தேள் நாடு) உண்டோ?

விரிவாக்கம்:

மண்ணோடு தண்ணீர் கலந்து ஒன்றாவது போல, மனதால் ஒன்றுபட்ட காதலர்களுக்கு இடையே உண்டாகும் சிறிய பிணக்கும் ஊடலுமே மிகச்சிறந்த இன்பத்தைத் தரக்கூடியதாகும். அத்தகைய அன்யோன்யமான தம்பதியரின் ஊடலில் கிடைக்கும் சுகத்தை விட மேலான இன்பம் தேவர் வாழும் விண்ணுலகத்திலும் இருக்க முடியாது என்பதை இக்குறள் அழகாக எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது.
